Scientists have detected an interstellar object within the Solar System. It has been designated A11pl3Z (3I/ATLAS). It will approach the Sun as close as possible in October of this year, writes the EarthSky portal, citing the European Space Agency.
It is specified that the object is currently located within the orbit of Jupiter.
“The object’s closest approach to the Sun will occur in October, when A11pl3Z enters the orbit of Mars,” the publication reports.
The portal, citing scientists, writes that an analysis of the object's trajectory suggests an extraterrestrial, interstellar origin. According to preliminary estimates by astronomers, it is presumably a comet, the diameter of whose nucleus reaches 20 kilometers.
Earlier, The Sun reported that Western experts have increased their attention to the Russian satellite Cosmos-2558. It is reported that the device, which was launched into geostationary orbit in 2022, released an unknown object near the American spy satellite USA 326.
