The Volga Regatta, an important stage in the selection of participants for the VI Summer Spartakiad, took place on the Kuibyshev Reservoir.

About 750 yachtsmen from 30 regions of Russia, starting from the age of 9, took part in the competition. Samara was represented by 23 athletes from Sports School of the Olympic Reserve No. 6 and the city Sailing Federation.

The Samara newspaper reported about this.

The event was organized by the regional Sailing Federation with the support of the regional Ministry of Sports. The head of Samara Ivan Noskov congratulated the young yachtsmen on their participation in the large-scale event:

"You have not only demonstrated your skills, but also gained experience that will help you move forward. Sailing strengthens character. I thank the coaches and the Federation's management for developing this area."

The regatta lasted 5 days and included 10 races in 16 yacht classes - from Optimist to Dragon. Among them were Laser Radial, 470 Mixed, Finn and others.

The conditions on the reservoir are traditionally considered ideal for sailing competitions, and it has produced many Olympic champions.

The President of the All-Russian Sailing Federation, Sergei Dzhienbaev, noted:

"Samara Region is one of the key points for the development of sailing in the country. Future stars of the Russian national team are born here."

Anastasia Antonova from Samara won bronze in the Luch-mini class, losing only to athletes from Tatarstan and St. Petersburg.

As the President of the Sailing Federation of the Samara Region, Alexander Grishnyakov , reported, the regatta has a rich history and remains a relevant platform for selection for top-level teams.

In addition, this year it became the start of larger events: from June 28 to July 12, the region is hosting the Samara Sailing Week, and three all-Russian championships are planned for the fall.
