PROMISED SONGS / MURATHAN MUNGAN (ADA MUSIC)
One of the problems of our music is the scarcity of good songwriters, and this is partly due to the fact that Murathan Mungan has set the bar very high. It is not easy to like lyrics after what he has written. The concrete proof of this is the album "Söz Vermiş Şarkılar" (Songs That Were Made Proven), which was released as a cassette and CD in 1999.
This compilation, prepared under the direction of Naim Dilmener and Bülent Forta, consisted of the interpretations of 18 songs written by Mungan by different names. Most of the songs were previously listened to by the listener on Yeni Türkü and placed on their bedside table. These were already beloved songs, but this work still managed to gain them listeners from new generations. The reason was the accurate decisions in the artist and group choices, the magnificent performances in the arrangements and performances.
As an important example of opening a new window to the understanding of interpretation in our country, “Söz Vermiş Şarkılar” is now in vinyl format for the first time. The cover design of the album consisting of two vinyls, which is reminiscent of the scratch-and-win lottery game of our childhood, while preserving the originality of the CD, is admirable. Of course, not all interpretations are of the same quality, but it does not matter; the quarter century that has passed since then makes this album as a whole as valuable as it deserves.
ŞANİŞER 'ROOT' (COLLABEL)Having been struggling in rap school for 20 years, Şanışer (Sarp Palaur) first came out of the underground into the light in 2019 with the 15-minute collective song “Susamam”, which he made by orchestrating 17 rappers; he made the music he is a supporter of listen to vast crowds. Şanışer, who has never given up on the struggle for rights, law and justice, continues to contribute to the literature of the music he belongs to with his eighth album “Kök”.
“Kök” is a journey that transforms internal reckonings into social questionings, both inward and outward. Although the end of the road extends to the roots, it is rich enough to receive its share from all modern sounds. Battle, flex, flow are all good, but Şanışer’s greatest feature is his courage, as well as his vast soul and conscience…
The album consists of 10 songs and Sokrat St. is a guest on two songs and Ados on one. There is a serious amount of pop as well as arabesque in the air from song to song. Şanışer in the “Kök” album is definitely not the old Şanışer, but this is what makes Şanışer meaningful. Şanışer is one of the rare poets of the rap world in an environment where there are few rappers who criticize the system despite appearing to be oppositional. That is why he gives us hope with every work he does.
Note: The album “Kök” was pressed as a 1000 numbered record.
