EU new car sales fall in January

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has announced new car registration data for the month of January in EU countries. Accordingly, new car sales in EU countries decreased by 2.6 percent compared to the same month in 2024, reaching 831,201 last month.
Of the new cars sold in the EU member countries, 34.9 percent were hybrids, 29.4 percent were gasoline-powered, 15 percent were electric, 10 percent were diesel, 7.4 percent were plug-in hybrids and 3.3 percent were vehicles using other fuel types.
Electric car sales increased by 34 percent in January compared to the same period last year, reaching 124,341. In addition, the share of fully electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models in total sales reached 57.3 percent.
New car sales fell by 6.2 percent in France, 5.8 percent in Italy and 2.8 percent in Germany in January compared to the same period last year, while they rose by 5.3 percent in Spain.
According to manufacturers, Volkswagen Group sold the most new cars in the EU in January with 229,898 vehicles.
Volkswagen Group was followed by Stellantis Group. Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen and Opel, sold 133,506 cars. Renault Group came in third with 90,362 new cars, and Toyota Group came in fourth with 72,027 new cars.
