Ministry of Trade announces fund cuts to be applied to table egg exports

In a statement made by the Ministry of Trade, it was stated that "As it is known, our priority as the Ministry of Trade is to protect the balance of domestic production and consumption, to meet domestic consumption at reasonable prices for our citizens, to eliminate threats to food supply security and to ensure sustainable food supply and consumption in our country, in coordination with the relevant official institutions and sectoral organizations, especially our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, taking into account new trends emerging in the world."
The statement, which said that bird flu, which started to be seen in Turkey especially in the last quarter of 2024, increased egg prices, included the following statements: "Eggs, which are a more affordable protein source compared to meat and dairy products, are one of the basic food sources in our country as well as all over the world. Egg supply varies depending on various economic, environmental and biological factors, and especially the bird flu outbreak causes serious losses in egg production. The decrease in production and the increase in demand for eggs originating from our country due to the regional bird flu outbreak that started to be seen in our country especially in the last quarter of 2024 have affected domestic prices upwards."

In the statement, which said that the 50 cent per kilogram deduction applied in table egg exports within the scope of DFIF was published in the Official Gazette , the following statements were made:
"As is known, during the export of some products, premium deductions related to the prices to be taken from the kilo or value of these products are determined within the scope of the Decision on the Support and Price Stabilization Fund (DFIF). In this context, excessive price fluctuations experienced in international markets are reflected in domestic prices and negatively affect consumer welfare. Considering the evaluations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding table egg exports, the fact that foreign demand will continue to increase and the approaching month of Ramadan, in order to prevent supply-side problems in terms of consumer welfare and prices in the domestic market, the 'Presidential Decision No. 9526 on Amendments to the Decision on the Support and Price Stabilization Fund', which regulates the issue of applying a 50 cent deduction per kilogram within the scope of DFIF in table egg exports, was published in the Official Gazette No. 32824 dated 25/02/2025 and entered into force."
In the statement, it was stated that the Ministry of Trade will continue its efforts in the future to ensure that the public has access to food at affordable costs, and that "In the upcoming period, our Ministry of Trade will resolutely use all policy and control tools within our scope of duty and authority to protect food supply and safety, facilitate our public's access to food at reasonable prices, and prevent speculation that may occur in food markets, by establishing strong cooperation with the relevant state institutions, especially the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the relevant private sector institutions."
