11 frequency palettes will be allocated to operators in the 5G tender

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced in a written statement that a tender will be held tomorrow as part of the work carried out for the implementation of 5G technology. Minister Uraloğlu stated that they have granted 5G trial permits at Istanbul Airport, the stadiums of the big four, and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Recalling that trial permits have been granted specifically for production facilities, Uraloğlu stated that operators will begin offering 5G service as of April 1, 2026. Regarding the tender details, Minister Uraloğlu stated, "A total of 11 different frequency packages will be allocated to operators in the tender, which will be held with a minimum value of $2.125 billion for a total of 400 megahertz frequencies in the 700 megahertz and 3.5 gigahertz frequency bands. Our operators will also enter the tender individually and compete to obtain the most suitable and largest frequency bands according to their own strategies."
Minister Uraloğlu stated that 5G technology, with its much lower latency and much higher connection capacities, will transform not only daily life but also the way we do business. He said, "We have conducted intensive technical studies with our operators who have successfully provided 2G, 3G, and 4.5G services. With this new era, we could experience up to a 10-fold increase in mobile internet speeds compared to 4.5G. From this perspective, 5G technology, with its very low-latency mobile communication and intensive machine-type communication features, will lead to significant changes in business processes across many sectors. For example, the opportunities offered by 5G will be utilized in areas such as fully autonomous driving, remote surgery, smart agriculture, and smart factories."
'DOMESTIC PRODUCTION IS ENCOURAGED'Minister Uraloğlu stated that local production is being encouraged in 5G infrastructure, saying, "There will be an obligation to use up to 60 percent domestic products and up to 30 percent national communication products. In this way, we will both reduce foreign dependency on technology and encourage domestic production."
Minister Uraloğlu also stated that operators can submit their bids until 09:30 tomorrow, and that the tender will be held at the BTK Headquarters at 10:30.
