Elections will be held for Deputy Mayor in Büyükçekmece

New elections will be held for the Büyükçekmece District Municipal Council. Ahmet Şahin, who was elected as a representative, was arrested and suspended from office as part of a corruption investigation.

The Istanbul Governorship announced the date of the election and shared with the public that it will be held on Monday, July 14.

IT WAS STATED THAT HE WAS SUSPENDED FROM OFFICE

In a statement made by the Governor's Office, it was stated that Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ahmet Şahin, who was arrested as part of the corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was suspended from his post by the Ministry of Interior on July 9.

IT WILL BE DONE IN THE MORNING HOURS

The statement read, "In accordance with the provisions of Article 45 of the Municipality Law No. 5393, our Governorship has deemed it appropriate for the Büyükçekmece District Municipal Council to convene on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. to elect the Deputy Mayor ."
