Governor Davut Gül met with muhtars as part of Mukhtars' Day

The Istanbul Governor's Office hosted a dinner hosted by Governor Davut Gül as part of "Mukhtars' Day" (October 19th). Attendees included Istanbul Deputy Hulki Cevizoğlu, Istanbul Deputy Rabia İlhan, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Nuri Aslan, Fatih Mayor Mehmet Ergün Turan, Provincial Police Chief Selami Yıldız, and neighborhood headmen (mukhtars) serving in Istanbul. The program began with a Quran recitation. Speaking at the event, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül said, "We are a large family with 39 districts and 961 neighborhoods. We all have a common goal: to serve Istanbul better. Whichever district we visit, we meet with our district governor and listen to you. You are the first to knock on our citizens' doors. You have the most accurate information on a neighborhood level."
Governor Gül said, "We have 961 neighborhoods in Istanbul. Which street needs what, which family has what problem? You have the answers to these questions. Thanks to you, our neighborhood headmen (muhtars), the closest hand of our state to our citizens, we are providing solutions to the problems of our families. Under the auspices of our Presidency, this year was declared the 'Year of the Family' and later revised to 'Decade of Family and Population.' The goal is to protect and strengthen the family. If a citizen is feeling helpless, an elderly person is alone, or a child cannot go to school, you will be the first to know. As the Istanbul Governor's Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Family and Social Services, we organized informational meetings for our neighborhood headmen (muhtars). We provided certificates to every participating neighborhood headman. Our President always emphasizes that he entrusts you, our neighborhood headmen, to the governors and district governors. My colleagues and I are always with you to make Istanbul a more peaceful and happier city."
