The Sultangazi Municipal Council convened to consider the 2026 Fiscal Year Budget. The 2026 Fiscal Year Budget was put to a vote during the session. Sultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun took the podium and spoke about the services provided and the projects planned for 2026. Sultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun said, "We've been carrying out significant work since 2019. We always say we're making significant investments without borrowing or paying interest. We're working tirelessly to best meet the city's needs while managing a cost-effective process. We're not investing in concrete. We're bringing life to the city with the service centers we've built. We exist to serve the good people of Sultangazi and make their lives easier. We're doing everything we can to be a sustainable economy and a sustainable municipality. We don't source real estate by selling it directly; we manage it. We're implementing sound savings. For example, by purchasing our municipal service vehicles instead of leasing them, we've achieved significant savings in our budget. This will serve as an example for other municipalities."
Sultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun stated that they are working intensively to increase the number of social facilities in the district. Mayor Dursun said, "We are increasing the number of areas where people can enjoy more affordable and high-quality food. We built one in the Cebeci National Park and will open it as soon as possible. We have also taken action to build social facilities in Esentepe, Uğur Mumcu, Cumhuriyet, Mimar Sinan City Forest, and Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli Forest. We will also demolish the old facility in the Malkoçoğlu neighborhood and build a new one. In total, we will serve our citizens with seven social facilities. We named our facilities the Mağlova Social Facilities, one of the most valuable works of Mimar Sinan, who contributed important works to Sultangazi."
Cultural Island ProjectSultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun said, "We've been working on a significant project for years. We're building one of the world's largest Cinema History Museums in Sultangazi. It will be a massive complex that will attract tourists to Sultangazi and attract both domestic and international visitors. We've begun construction. We've acquired most of the materials for the museum's display. It will also include a library, event center, exhibition areas, a mosque and madrasah, restaurants and cafeterias, a parking area, and a parking garage. It will be a project that will propel Sultangazi forward."
"Aid cannot be provided with money"Responding to questions from council members, Mayor Dursun emphasized the importance of providing social assistance without hurting people: "A few of our council members have been curious about our social assistance. We provide our social assistance with sensitivity and compassion, without offending our neighbors, and without exposing them to the public. We provide three meals a day to the needy and the elderly. And we do it free of charge, without charging 40-50 lira. In our understanding, assistance is provided not with money, but with heartfelt support. We deposit a predetermined amount of money into the social support cards of families in need every month. We exist for our neighbors. We will continue to work for Sultangazi. I thank everyone who contributed to the implementation of these efforts, especially our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, our ministries, and all our institutions. I also extend my sincere gratitude to all my teammates for their efforts."
Following the speech, the 2026 Financial Budget was put to a vote. The budget proposal was approved by majority vote.
