Zeynep Sönmez bids farewell to the US Open

Zeynep Sönmez was eliminated from the US Open tennis tournament after losing 2-1 to Marta Kostyuk in the second round.
Zeynep Sönmez, competing in the main draw of the season's last Grand Slam tennis tournament, the US Open, defeated American Katie Volynets in the first round without dropping a set.
Sönmez faced Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, world number 27, in the second round.
The national tennis player, who lost the first set 7-5, won the second set 7-6 and carried the match to the final set.
Sönmez lost the final set 6-3, despite being up 3-2.
Sönmez, ranked 81st in the world, became the first Turkish female tennis player to repeat this feat nine years after Çağla Büyükakçay, who reached the second round of the US Open in 2016.
The women's final at the US Open will be played on September 6, while the men's final will be played on September 7.
Sönmez, 23, won two matches in the main draw of another Grand Slam tournament, Wimbledon, held in London, the British capital, before being eliminated in the third round.
