A new Tülüşah area was discovered in Kuşadası.
While the protection efforts for the Tülüşah, also known as Aydın Gaşağı, which grows in the Kuşadası region of Aydın and is under protection because it is an endemic species and is at risk of extinction, continue, a new #Tülüşah area has been discovered.
During the field studies carried out by the Ecosystem Protection and Nature Lovers Association (EKODOSD), it was determined that there were 99 Tülüşahs grown in 2 olive groves as a result of the examinations made.
Today, there are approximately 12,000 plants in our country. 1/3 of these are not found anywhere else in the world. These plants that are only found within our country's borders are called ENDEMIC plants. As is known, each of these plants carries a potential drug raw material.
Aydin province is located in the Mediterranean climate zone and is in a good position in terms of biological richness. In addition to its unique plant and animal diversity, it has protected areas such as national parks, nature parks, etc.
The most important of these is the Dilek Peninsula and Menderes Delta National Park. This national park, which has more than 800 plant varieties, more than 30 of which are endemic, is in a very special place in terms of plant diversity among the 45 national parks in our country. The vast majority of visitors to our national park, which hosts thousands of visitors every year, do not know these values, and see the area as a picnic and swimming recreation area.
Here we have an endemic species living in the areas neighboring our national park. This species, called TÜLÜŞAH (Tülluşah) or AYDIN GAŞAĞI, was thought to live only in Aydın until recently. Thankfully, it was found in very small populations in Muğla (Milas) and Isparta (Uluborlu). The main habitat of the plant, which grows in the Natural Botanical Park and Güvercinada in Kuşadası, is within the borders of Yaylaköy and Soğucak.
The plant samples collected by the Swiss Max Nydegger-Hügli in 1978, 7 km north of Davutlar, were named Mykalae by the Swiss botanist Arthur Huber-Morath, referring to the place where they were collected, and were introduced to the scientific world in 1979 (Rhaponticoides mykalea (HUB.-Mor) MVAgab.&Grauter).
The Tulsi with its beautiful flowers can grow up to 3 meters tall and blooms in June and July. Tulsi, which is already one of the symbolic plants of Aydın, is unfortunately under pressure from tourism, construction, agriculture and unconscious collection. For this reason, its habitat has shrunk considerably and its species has become endangered (according to the IUCN's Threat Category, "CR" = Very Endangered). Article 9, paragraph f of the Environmental Law No. 2872 states that "In order to ensure the sustainability of Biological Diversity, the protection of rare plant and animal species that are threatened or endangered is essential."
Within this scope, the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, under the coordination of the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Aydın Adnan Menderes University (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özkan EREN), included it in the Species Action Plan and a 5-year study was initiated. In addition, Kuşadası Municipality has also taken ownership of the plant and supported the studies for the protection of Tülüşah. Again, with the protocol made by Kuşadası Municipality with the PTT Regional Directorate, a postage stamp of a plant was printed for the first time. Undoubtedly, the Ecosystem Protection and Nature Lovers Association EKODOSD has made the greatest contribution to the protection and recognition of the species. In addition to awareness-raising studies every year, it works with institutions and organizations such as the governor's office, municipality, university, National Education, etc. to produce solution proposals for the protection and survival of the species.
Within the scope of the project, our endemic plants and TÜLÜŞAH, which constitute an important part of our biological wealth, will be explained.

Safety Precautions in Nature Sports and Outdoor Activities
- In all outdoor activities and nature sports, safety is your primary responsibility. No article or video can replace proper practical training and personal experience.
- Especially in outdoor extreme sports, you are primarily responsible for your own personal safety. Always prioritize your personal safety and the harmony and safety of the team you are with.
- In all cases, be on the side of nature , keep the environment clean, and never harm wild animals or the nature where wildlife lives.
- While exploring natural and historical beauties, you should pay attention to some important points for your holiday to be enjoyable and safe. Before your trip, do detailed research about the region you will go to , check the weather conditions and take appropriate clothes with you. Never damage natural, historical and touristic places. Do not leave your garbage in the places you go, take your garbage back to where you came from in bags as you brought it or throw it in a garbage container.
- If you are planning a nature trip, camping or outdoor activity, be sure to pack all the necessary equipment .
- In Turkey, there are frequent bans on entering forests and some protected areas, and administrative fines are imposed on those who do not comply. You should verify current forest entry bans from the provincial Regional Forestry Directorates.
- Technically, all outdoor activities in nature require prior permission. Our advice to our readers, campers, nature walkers and those who participate in all outdoor sports is to at least call the law enforcement authorities before starting the activity and inform them about the nature activity and routes they will be doing.
