Shooting in downtown London leaves man hospitalized with serious injuries

London police are investigating a shooting in the downtown core Saturday night that left one man in hospital.

Investigators did not provide any information on a suspect or suspects in the incident, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the area of Dundas and Wellington Streets.

In a statement Sunday morning, police said officers located an adult man with apparent gunshot wounds who was taken to hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Photos taken Saturday night and posted on social media show police tape cordoning off a section of the parking lot behind the former Wright Lithographing building and the former downtown library branch.

At least a dozen evidence markers can also be seen dotting a parking lot directly behind 300 Dundas St.

Police had cleared the scene by mid-morning Sunday.

"Police have cleared the area and are not currently holding the scene as there is no risk to public safety," police said in their statement, adding that more information would be "provided as appropriate."

"Investigators are requesting anyone who may have dash-cam, residential or business surveillance that could assist with the investigation, to contact the London Police Service."

Police did not say if an arrest was made or provide a description of a suspect or suspects.

The shooting is the city's second in less than a week.

A 23-year-old was charged last week in connection with a shooting in the early morning hours of April 28 near Adelaide and Piccadilly streets.
