Tyla took a page out of Britney Spears's style book over the weekend by wearing a similar version of the pop star's iconic look.
Y2K fashion and culture have been infiltrating the masses over the last few years, with Gen Z reclaiming the low-rise jeans, big buckle belts, ballerina flats, and more. With that came Tyla's Coachella weekend two performance on Friday, April 18. The “Water” singer stepped out onto the Outdoor Stage on the vast festival grounds in Indio, California, dressed in an outfit that's reminiscent of a certain pop star's VMAs performance.
Tyla danced and sang on stage wearing a green and purple bra top, along with ultra-low-rise jean shorts that were bedazzled and tassled. She paired the outfit with an intricate necklace/ body chain, along with two different pairs of shoes — first it was zebra print booties, then it was knee-high brown boots.

If Tyla's outfit immediately seemed familiar, that's because it looks similar to one that Britney Spears famously wore more than 20 years ago. The “Toxic” singer rocked the 2001 MTV VMAs and shocked audiences by coming onto stage with a massive snake around her shoulders. The performance has become solidified in pop music history and upped the stakes of the VMAs every year since.
But aside from the yellow creature draped around Spears's neck, it was her outfit that has since inspired recreations. Spears sang “I'm a Slave 4 U” while wearing a green bra top with embellished purple details, ultrashort bedazzled shorts, and a diamond belly ring.
