Company founded by Cousteau taken over by Austrian concern

The Commercial Court of Nice was considering two applications concerning the takeover of the Aqualung company, which produces and services specialist diving equipment.
The bids were submitted by Austrian sports equipment manufacturer Austrian Head Group and former Rossignol director Bruno Cercley, along with Asian partners.
By the judges' decision, the Austrians acquired the rights to the name, trademark, technological solutions and service agreements that were in the Aqualung portfolio.
Aqualung was founded over 60 years ago by the French marine life explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau and engineer Emile Gagnan. Years later, the company was taken over by the American investment fund Barings, which itself has run into serious trouble and is now bankrupt.
Aqualung is a world leader in the production of diving equipment for lovers of underwater adventures, but also for the needs of the military, special units and police services.
As announced, the company's headquarters will remain in France, on the Côte d'Azur, and other functions will be centralized within the Head group .
