Granby duo sets MassGolf Father-Daughter tournament record with 9-under 63

Granby’s Ryley and Michael Regan dominated MassGolf’s Father-Daughter tournament at Bayberry Hills Golf Course on Aug. 7 in Yarmouth. The Orchards Golf Club (South Hadley) duo erupted for six birdies in their first nine holes and never looked back as they fired a 9-under round of 63, the lowest recorded score in the Father-Daughter tournament’s history (1981).

The tournament’s format is modified scotch, where both golfers hit their tee shots, select which one they would like to play, and then alternate their shots for the rest of the hole. Fathers played from 6,100 yards while daughters played from 5,500 yards in the championship division.

A 5-under front nine and 4-under back nine made up the Regans’s round. The 9-under total score gave them the win by a whopping eight strokes. It was just the second time Ryley and Michael played in this tournament, and it’s safe to say it won’t be their last.

Proximity to the hole on approach shots and a handful of made putts separated the Regans from the rest of the pack.

“We struggled off the tee, not many fairways, but our putters were hot,” Michael Regan said. “We were hitting shots close and making putts, and that was really the biggest difference of the day.”

After grabbing the win on Friday, it catapulted Ryley into this week’s Massachusetts Women’s Amateur Championship with a lot of momentum. She’s looking to have a big week at Concord Country Club.

“I was really happy with my ball striking and short game today, and that’s a positive going into the next event,” Ryley said.
