Papal election disrupts filming of “Emily in Paris” in Rome

Rome. According to media reports, the election of Pope Leo XIV has disrupted filming for the sequel to the Netflix series "Emily in Paris." Due to the enormous crowds that flocked to St. Peter's Square to announce the new head of the church, filming was canceled, as the newspaper "Il Messaggero" reported. The fifth season of "Emily in Paris," which is actually based in the French capital, is set in part in Rome.
After the white smoke from the Sistine Chapel signaled the election of the new pontiff, tens of thousands of people rushed to the Vatican on Thursday evening to see the pope's first appearance. According to "Il Messaggero," the noise and chaos forced the show to be canceled. Emily actress Lily Collins had to reshoot several scenes "because the noise was insane." Other actors, such as Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (as Sylvie Grateau) and Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), also suffered.
Park also mocked this in a now-deleted online video. In it, the 33-year-old American complains to the cameras: "It's my first day of filming in Rome and they just elected the Pope. Does anyone care?" An ironic "Fantastic" can be heard from those around her. Everyone laughs. Park repeats: "Fantastic, the Pope. We're in a trailer so no one notices we're in Rome. But we're here and we heard the church bells ringing!" She then had to face comments accusing her of lacking respect.
According to Netflix, the fifth season of "Emily in Paris" will likely premiere at the end of the year. After Rome, filming will return to Paris.
