DAX in record mood: Customs conflict, Rheinmetall, Commerzbank, Salzgitter, Hochtief, BASF, DHL in focus

The DAX reached a new record high last week at just over 23,543 points. The German benchmark index closed the weekend on Friday with a gain of 0.6 percent to 23,499.32 points. And the DAX is likely to continue its record-breaking run into the start of the week. Broker IG estimates the DAX 0.7 percent higher at 23,675 points on Monday morning.
The DAX is receiving support from progress in the tariff conflict between the US and China. According to the White House, an agreement has been reached. A corresponding statement is expected today.
On the futures side, several quarterly figures are scheduled to be released at the start of the week. Reports include Formycon, Evonik, UniCredit, Hypoport, 1&1, United Internet, Ionos, Salzgitter, and Hochtief.
The previous week's winners and losers in the DAX are also likely to remain in focus. Fresenius Medical Care, Commerzbank, Rheinmetall, BMW, and Porsche were the strongest performers here. Mercedes-Benz (although this includes a dividend discount), Zalando, Beiersdorf, BASF, and DHL Group, on the other hand, were at the bottom of the DAX.
Bitcoin continues to perform strongly, while the price of gold has recently declined somewhat. One Bitcoin costs $103,850 on Monday morning. A troy ounce of gold is currently trading at $3,278.
There was some slight profit-taking on the US stock markets heading into the weekend. The leading Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3 percent to 41,249.38 points. The broad-based S&P 500 lost 0.1 percent to 5,659.91 points. And the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 closed virtually unchanged at 20,061.45 points.
Asian markets are posting gains on Monday morning. Japan's Nikkei 225 index is currently up 0.3 percent. The Hang Seng index of the Chinese special administrative region of Hong Kong is up 1.2 percent. The CSI 300, which tracks the most important mainland Chinese stocks, is up 0.8 percent.
