4 minutesRobert Habeck wanted to make his Greens a people's party, but that will not happen any time soon. The party is facing fundamental questions - once again.
At half past one on Monday morning, it was clear that things were not going to turn out the way they wanted. The BSW was being thrown out of the Bundestag - and the Greens were not needed to govern. The CDU/CSU and SPD had a majority even without them.
With only 11.6 percent, far below their own expectations, the Greens are now hitting the opposition hard. For Robert Habeck, the candidate for chancellor, this is the biggest possible defeat. He has failed.
