Dr. Ophelia Nick describes it as a matter of the heart to campaign for the health of people, animals and the environment. The 52-year-old Green politician has been a member of the Bundestag since October 2021 and has been Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture since December 2021.
Nick completed an agricultural apprenticeship and then studied veterinary medicine at the FU Berlin. In 2012, she completed her doctorate at the LMU Munich on the placement of laboratory dogs in private hands.
She is married and has four children. Nick comes from a family of doctors and is the daughter of Konrad Schily, co-founder of the private University of Witten/Herdecke. (iss)
