Princess Margriet attended an appointment in Groesbeek using a walking stick and arm sling. She had fallen on an ice rink in March.
Princess Margriet (82), sister of former Queen Beatrix (87), attended a public event this Thursday. She opened the exhibition "Native Liberators" at the Freedom Museum in Groesbeek. "The exhibition sheds light on the history and cultural background of indigenous soldiers from across North America," reads an Instagram post from the Dutch royal family. The 82-year-old attended the event with her husband Pieter van Vollenhoven (85) and wore a colorful outfit with blue trousers, a yellow blouse, and blue and yellow earrings. However, the focus of attention was primarily on her left arm.
The princess wore it in a blue sling, color-coordinated with her outfit. The 82-year-old also used a walking stick. Princess Margriet fractured her upper arm in a fall on the ice rink in Heerenveen at the end of March.
She fell while participating in the charity event "De Hollandse 100" at the Thialf ice rink. The skating event raises funds for lymph cancer research. Margriet's son, Prince Bernhard (55), is organizing the event with his foundation "Lymph&Co." He was present with his brother, Prince Maurits (57), and immediately helped his mother after her fall, the newspaper "De Telegraaf" reported . According to a spokesperson for the organization, the princess was transported to a clinic for examination after the fall. She was responsive the entire time.
Trip canceledA few days ago, the princess canceled her trip to Canada, which was scheduled to take her to Ottawa and Toronto from May 9 to 12. "Unfortunately, this trip is not responsible for the Princess's speedy recovery from the fracture in her left arm," a statement read . The 82-year-old has a special connection to the country: Margriet was born in Ottawa during the Second World War.
