BP course change: Back to oil

A quarter of a century ago, the British oil and gas company BP first announced a green image change. "British Petroleum" was to become "Beyond Petroleum". BP wanted to reduce emissions and invest billions in solar and wind power plants. The change in strategy failed at the time. After the explosion of the BP oil drilling platform "Deepwater Horizon" in the Gulf of Mexico, with its devastating consequences for the environment, the company had to pay billions of dollars in compensation. BP was forced to sell many of its unprofitable solar and wind farm investments. The "Beyond Petroleum" slogan haunted the company for a long time and caused ridicule.
