Climate protection activist Luisa Neubauer has accused Chancellor Friedrich Merz of breaking his word.

"Friedrich Merz defended the climate goals during the election campaign, won an election, and then decided on a new approach to gas production in the coalition agreement," she told the "Tagesspiegel" (Friday edition). The new federal government's approach is making it more difficult for Germany to achieve its climate goals. Neubauer accused the CDU politician of not being adequately interested in climate protection.

"I would assume that Friedrich Merz currently has no serious interest in protecting the climate," said Neubauer, strongly criticizing the Chancellor's inaction. There is no factor that changes the world as significantly as the climate. "This is not secret knowledge," said Neubauer, holding Merz accountable. "I no longer want to find clever excuses for why a chancellor isn't living up to this responsibility. We must stop treating grown men like toddlers," said Neubauer.
