Left Party youth organization shocks with GDR flag at Pride parade

At a parade marking Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Karlsruhe, a local chapter of the Left Party's youth organization attracted attention with unusual symbols. In a photo shared by the Left Youth Solid Karlsruhe on Instagram, one can see classic rainbow-colored balloons as well as a flag modeled after the East German flag.
Against the backdrop of the transgender pride colors, the GDR 's national emblem, consisting of a hammer and compass surrounded by a wreath of ears of corn, is depicted. Members of the youth organization hold the trans-GDR hybrid in front of them. Also visible are a Pride flag with a hammer and sickle and a sign with the words "No Pride Without Class Riot."
In the post, the youth organization wrote that they demonstrated with "many great people" against "anti-queer attacks" and "right-wing hate speech." The group explicitly welcomed the fact that the local CDU was disinvited from the parade. The Karlsruhe Pride parade was held on June 7, from which the photo was taken.

On platform X, the symbolism used has been sharply criticized. One user speaks of a lack of political education, while another writes: "The Pride and Queer movement is currently destroying itself." The Left Youth post has since been deleted from the youth group's account.
Linksjugend Solid is a nationwide youth organization closely associated with the Left Party. The name Solid is an acronym formed from the words "socialist," "left," and "democratic." The group is organized into approximately 200 grassroots groups in the German states and, according to its own information, has 7,500 active and 16,400 passive members.
