Trouble in Turkish football: Galatasaray makes accusations against Mourinho

José Mourinho is apparently in trouble in Turkey. The coach of Fenerbahce Istanbul is said to have made "racist" comments in the derby against Galatasaray, according to a sharp statement released by the record champions after the 0-0 draw.

"We hereby officially declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings regarding the racist remarks made by José Mourinho and will accordingly file official complaints with UEFA and FIFA," Galatasaray said.

Mourinho has not yet commented on the allegations. The coach said at the press conference after the 0-0 draw in the league match on Monday evening that the opposing bench had jumped around "like monkeys" after a controversial situation. It was initially unclear whether Galatasaray's statement referred to this statement.

Mourinho has criticized football in Turkey several times in the past. He not only accused the referees of a lack of professionalism, but also said that the Turkish league was significantly less attractive than other top international leagues.

"Since the beginning of his coaching career in Turkey, Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho has constantly made derogatory comments about the Turkish people," said Galatasaray's statement. Mourinho has now crossed a line and Fenerbahce should carefully examine how the coach behaves.
