Tech entrepreneur Nicole Büttner is the new General Secretary of the FDP

Nicole Büttner is co-founder of Merantix Momentum, an AI company, and founding partner at the VC Merantix Capital – she has now been elected as the new General Secretary of the FDP.
Entrepreneur Nicole Büttner is the new General Secretary of the FDP. The 40-year-old received the necessary support at the federal party conference in Berlin, receiving 491 of the votes cast (80 percent).
Büttner has been a member of the FDP for 20 years and has not previously been in the national political spotlight. She is managing director of the Berlin-based AI company Merantix Momentum. She is also a member of the board of the Federal Association of German Startups.
New party leader Christian Dürr nominated Büttner for the position. She will replace former Justice Minister Marco Buschmann, who stepped down from political life after the FDP failed to re-enter the Bundestag with 4.3 percent of the vote.

Two weeks ago, the entrepreneur wrote a LinkedIn post about her candidacy for General Secretary of the FDP. It read: "As a tech entrepreneur, I've spent the last few years scaling innovations, building teams, and solving problems with an eye on the future. Now I want to bring this mindset to public service—because Germany needs a liberal voice that stands for solutions, progress, and opportunities for all."
