Marlen Reusser wins the Giro opener convincingly

(sda) Marlen Reusser lived up to her role as favorite with a clear victory in the race against the clock on flat terrain. She beat her closest rival, Lotte Kopecky, by 12 seconds. Last year, the Belgian, still Reusser's teammate at the time, finished second overall in the Giro d'Italia behind Elisa Longo Borghini. The Italian finished third in the time trial, 16 seconds behind.

With the victory, Reusser took the first step toward her next big goal. After winning the Tour de Suisse, she is also aiming for overall victory in the eight-stage Tour of Italy.
Elena Hartmann was the second-best Swiss woman in the time trial, finishing 12th. The Graubünden native lost 44 seconds to her compatriot's best time.
