A travel warning means that there is a concrete threat to life and limb in the destination country or border region. If only a specific region of a country or territory is affected, the Federal Foreign Office issues a partial travel warning . A travel warning is to be understood as an urgent appeal to refrain from traveling to a country classified as dangerous.
A travel warning is issued when a threat to life and limb is deemed to exist in the destination country. This includes, among other things, wars and terrorist attacks, but also natural disasters and epidemics. The decision by the Federal Foreign Office to issue or lift a travel warning always depends on the circumstances and developments on site. The security situation is reassessed daily, and any travel advisories or warnings are updated accordingly.
Travel warnings issued by the Federal Foreign Office do not constitute a travel ban. The decision whether to travel to a country whose security status is classified as critical by the Federal Foreign Office is the responsibility of the traveler.
