Mulled wine for one euro: Aldi Christmas market to open in four German cities in 2025

Mulled wine for one euro, bratwurst and crêpes for 2 euros – Aldi Süd is organizing what it claims is "Germany's cheapest Christmas market" in 2025 in four selected cities.
This year, mini Christmas markets featuring Christmas classics at low prices will take place in Saarbrücken, Augsburg, Bonn, and Wiesbaden. The discount retailer aims to make "Christmas spirit accessible to everyone" with this initiative. Additional attractions include a children's carousel, face painting with Christmas themes, and an interactive photo booth.

Aldi Süd plans to donate the proceeds again to the Off-Road Kids Foundation, which supports homeless children and teenagers. In 2024, the company raised €70,000 from its Christmas market and donated it to the foundation.
Instead of spending 5 euros on a mulled wine at the Christmas market in Munich or at the Christmas market at the Cologne Cathedral ( as of November 2024 ), you can save money at the Aldi Christmas market on the following days between 3 pm and 9 pm:
- Saarbrücken : November 12th to 14th at Halbergstraße 5, 66121 Saarbrücken, Saarland
 - Augsburg : November 12th to 14th at Weiherstraße 10, 86154 Augsburg, Bavaria
 - Bonn : November 18th to 20th at Maarstraße 3, 53227 Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia
 - Wiesbaden : November 18th to 20th at Hagenauer Straße 40, 65203 Wiesbaden, Hesse

Mulled wine, children's punch, and bags of cookies are available there for one euro. Bratwurst in a roll (also vegan), crêpes, and Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) with roasted onions are sold for two euros. Among other things, a fruity, warming aperitif is a new addition: a hot Aperini for two euros, also available alcohol-free.

Those who wish to visit the respective cities before or after have many great sights to choose from.
In Saarbrücken, you'll find the best view of the city from Saarbrücken Castle. This Baroque building is located very close to St. Johanner Market and today serves as an administrative center, conference venue, and location for many cultural events. Beneath the castle, 14 meters below ground, lie the remains of a medieval fortress, which you can explore. Also worth seeing is the magnificent Ludwigskirche, one of the most important Baroque churches in Germany.

Want to see the Christmas market in Saarbrücken too? Then you only need to stay a few days longer. The so-called Christkindl-Markt Saarbrücken in Saarbrücken city center takes place from November 17th to December 23rd, 2025.
As one of Bavaria's oldest cities, Augsburg boasts historic buildings dating back to the Middle Ages, including the town hall with its spectacular Golden Hall. The entire ceiling is gilded and features numerous paintings and decorations. The town hall was built between 1615 and 1624.
Right next to it stands the Perlach Tower, about 30 meters high, which was built in the tenth century and used as a watchtower. Today it serves as an observation tower, but it is currently undergoing renovations until approximately 2027 and therefore cannot be climbed. Especially during the colder months, Wiesbaden is a great place to warm up. Why? Every day, two million liters of warm water bubble up from deep underground in the city center, reaching temperatures of up to 67 degrees Celsius. You can bathe in this water at the Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme, and the Radisson Blu Schwarzer Bock Hotel and the Nassauer Hof with its rooftop pool also have their own thermal springs. Alternatively, you can warm up from the inside out with a few sips of water from the Kochbrunnen fountain.
While you can reach most destinations in Wiesbaden on foot, if you prefer to explore the city by tram, you can board one of the two trams, Thermine (red) and Lili (white-blue-yellow), at the market square.

In 50 minutes, the trams complete a tour through the city center, along the luxurious Wilhelmstrasse, past the Kurhaus to the Russian Orthodox Church with its golden onion domes, the Nerobergbahn funicular railway, to the historic Kranzplatz square with its Kochbrunnen fountain, and across the Schlossplatz square to the Marktkirche (Market Church). Adults pay €12 for the "Tour de Wiesbaden".
