Correos temporarily suspends shipments of low-value packages to the United States and Puerto Rico due to tariffs.

The Post Office will temporarily suspend the acceptance of packages destined for the United States or Puerto Rico with a commercial value equal to or less than $800 (€681.50) starting next Monday, August 25, due to the end of the "de minimis" regime.
According to a statement released Friday, the reason for this is the change in US customs regulations, which eliminates the tariff exemption previously applied to low-value incoming shipments. Consequently, the Post Office will only accept these types of shipments until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday the 24th.
Beginning August 29, all merchandise shipments destined for the United States or Puerto Rico will be subject to tariffs, with rates that vary depending on the country of origin and the value of the product.
The situation forces Correos, along with all postal operators, such as the German DHL, to substantially modify its processes and increase shipment controls in order to implement the new requirements.
This, the public company warns, will have a "significant" impact on international postal logistics and e-commerce flows.
However, the sending of letters and documents of no commercial value, books, or gifts sent by individuals with a value equal to or less than $100 (€85.2) will continue to be accepted and will not be affected in any way.
