Fashion and style rules that were broken forever and are still trending!

Until a few years ago, it was very common to hear (especially from mothers and grandmothers) that some clothes or colors should not be combined with each other or that some body types should avoid certain styles . It was also common to hear that handbags and shoes should necessarily be the same color and even that clothes of another gender should not be worn.

Over time, these and many other rules have become a thing of the past and today we see on the catwalks and in the streets how the “norms” of fashion and style are challenged. That is why, with the help of several experts, we tell you what advice was once given to us and that should be forgotten forever and that now, on the contrary, are very much in fashion.
Don't go out in pajamas For many it may still be unthinkable, but the truth is that pajama clothes are being used again with great force outside the home. In fact, a few years ago we started hearing about the NBN trend, which, according to Vogue magazine, is the phenomenon dubbed in France “Netflix-baguette-Netflix” which consists of going out in pajamas to run errands. Now, going out in pajamas to buy breakfast is different than attending an event. So the answer is: it depends on the pajamas. Ana María Sarmiento, founder of the Colombian brand Flor Amazona, shares her tips:
“If you are going to wear the full set , you can use a belt to make it more elegant, and some stilettos . You can also wear just the shirt with jeans, leather pants, or plain linen pants if you are in a hot climate. To go out in pajamas, it is very important that the shirt has a fine shirt structure, with a good collar, good cuff finishes, hidden seams, and above all, a fabric that gives it value.”

According to fashion stylist Alejandra Muñoz, one of the rules of fashion that should definitely be broken is not to repeat looks or save your favorite clothes, accessories and shoes only for special occasions. As she says, “each piece or garment is so versatile that you can really create many looks with it.”
Personalities such as Cate Blanchett and Queen Letizia are some examples of famous women who have broken this taboo and the truth is that many people do not dare to wear it for fear of what others will say. “That fear of repeating an item of clothing at an event or at work must go away. Clothes are meant to be worn on multiple occasions and especially if they are your favourites.”
Do not combine prints Until a few years ago, it was also rare to imagine that prints such as flowers with stripes or animal print with polka dots could be combined. For Eliana Esquivel, image coach and stylist , this rule inhibits the ability to create and connect with our internal chromatic state. “ Being free, fresh, creative, brave and happy through our style is invaluable. So don’t be afraid to combine prints .”

Considering the bohemian trend, which is very strong and which we have seen on the catwalks of the fashion weeks, according to the expert consulted by EL TIEMPO, floral prints cannot be missed. “In addition, they match perfectly with other prints such as tartan, polka dots , stripes , and at the same time they also allow for mixing with textures such as suede, velvet and leather.”
Do not use daytime gloss It has also been proven that sequins, glitter and in general shiny details or textures are not limited to evening looks and, on the contrary, can be worn in daytime outfits. Of course, the recommendation will be that it depends on the occasion, since they generally seek to attract more attention. In this regard, Alejandra Muñoz comments: “ Metallics and sequins are not just for the night. They can be used and mixed with more casual and basic garments .”
Regarding the topic of jewelry, it was also heard that silver and gold should not be mixed, but according to some, this is also another myth.
Other rules that were left in the past Colour combinations such as blue and black or red and fuchsia were once unthinkable, but the truth is that today there are no limits to mixing shades. In addition, shades are not restricted to a climate or season.
Dressing from head to toe in a single material, such as denim, is a trend that is here to stay. The recommendation is to wear different shades.
On the other hand, Esquivel comments that another rule that has been left behind is to stop wearing clothes after a certain age. “As human beings we evolve and so does our style. With my clients I have learned that a large part of their maturity as people allows them to know themselves so much that when they reach a certain age they can allow themselves to experiment and feel totally comfortable with their style and with all their clothes, taking into account that these do not have an expiration date.”
It is worth noting that in the end, all fashion rules can be broken, but experts recommend taking into account the occasion, the weather and the time or, in general , if it is recommended to follow a dress code.
