Galicia establishes by law the individual use of technology in class starting in 5th grade.

The regional government will legally establish the individual use of technology in classrooms , which will be possible starting in the fifth grade of primary school, according to the regional minister of Education, Science, Vocational Training, and Universities, Román Rodríguez, speaking at the Governing Council. Collectively, this will apply to preschool and primary school through the fourth grade .
Regarding this law, the Galician President, Alfonso Rueda, has stated that the goal is to submit it to the Galician Parliament in the fall for its entry into force next year. The objective is to consolidate a hybrid educational model with the presence of printed books and the use of new technologies.
Rueda recalled that each school currently determines how these tools are used, something that will be established by law in 2026. In February, the regional government began the process of drafting the future Galician Digital Education Law , which, in the preliminary consultation, received "some 600 contributions" that will be studied. Now, a process will begin to gather more input on the use of digital tools.
The goal is to establish by law what type of use digital equipment should be used for at each stage and ensure appropriate use for each age group . "To maximize the benefits of technology and minimize potential risks," summarized the Regional Minister of Education, Román Rodríguez, after explaining that in Early Childhood Education and up to the fourth year of Primary School, it will be used collectively.
RegulationRegarding the law, the councilor asserted that the goal is for it to serve to regulate "with coherence, responsibility, and a vision for the future" the rights and duties of the different members of the educational community in this area.
"This isn't just another law; we're developing it in a pioneering way , and what we want is to have a well-defined structure divided into chapters reserved for teachers, students, schools, and families," he explained.
In his appearance, he added that a schedule of meetings will now be launched with various groups within the educational community to "compare different points of view and enrich the draft."
