Silvia Mas and Alex Marsans, second in the Lanzarote International Regatta

There could not have been better conditions to say goodbye to the Lanzarote International Regatta 2025. The last day of the ten days that this championship has lasted was held in Marina Rubicón with an easterly wind of about 18 knots that has provided some very fun regattas, as well as being competitive and very physically demanding.
No one could have imagined a more exciting finale in the 470 Mixed class. After two races in which the marking between the first -Diogo Costa and Carolina Joao- and the second -Silvia Mas and Alex Marsans- was clear, the last race of the championship remained to be contested, which was red hot: with the Portuguese and Spanish at the top of the table tied at 20 points.
Everything would therefore be decided in the final race. Both crews started well, but a capsize by Silvia and Alex made their chances of finishing ahead of Costa and Joao disappear. They did not lose concentration and scored their fifth partial victory of the championship and the one that gave them the final triumph over Mas and Marsans, who finished second in what was their first race as a crew .
“We went out on the water with just one point of advantage over the Spaniards and we didn’t start off very well as we made several mistakes in the first race, but we picked up speed in the next two,” explained crew member Carolina Joao. “It was a good championship because in the end we had a bit of everything in terms of conditions: medium wind on a couple of days, stronger today, light another day, good waves, some swell… Without a doubt, a great training session for everyone.”
Silvia Mas gave a "very positive" assessment of the regatta and its varied conditions, in which "we used almost all the falls that the boat has, so it was very good to test ourselves in all the conditions and see exactly where we have more and fewer errors, which is what it is all about, improving."
Bea Gago and Rodolfo Pires completed the podium, the other Portuguese crew that will fight with them to be in Los Angeles 2028.
The ILCA 7 fleet has competed on the last day in two races leading up to the final Medal Race, in which only the top 10 finishers have participated. However, it was not necessary to wait until this race was over to find out the winner of the fifth edition of the Lanzarote International Regatta in this class.
Dutchman Duko Bos sealed the overall standings with the Medal still to be won mathematically. Even so, he went all out and sealed his participation with a victory, curiously the first of the championship.
« In the last few weeks we have been training here as a whole Dutch team , as it is our winter base. It has been a good race with different conditions. After three weeks here we are going back home tomorrow to rest a bit and then we will return for another training period in Lanzarote», said the Dutchman.
Montenegrin Mikivoj Dukic retained his silver medal, while Dutchman Thomas van Ofwegen managed to sneak onto the podium in extremis, taking bronze.
The Canarian Snipe fleet has completed the two races scheduled for Sunday and they could not have been more exciting. Authoritative leaders after yesterday's two victories, Gustavo del Castillo and Christian Sánchez have surfed a wave almost at the finish line and have snatched the first race from Rafa Lasso and Gonzalo Morales at the finish line.
The second race of the day was no exception and Gustavo del Castillo and Christian Sánchez won again to become the first Snipe champions of the Lanzarote International Regatta. Miguel A. Naveran and Lucho Hernández, from RCN Arrecife, kept second place while Rafael Lasso and Gonzalo Morales, from CDN Castillo del Águila, managed to improve their position in the table to reach third place on the podium.
The Lanzarote International Regatta has been organised by Marina Rubicón and has been sponsored by Turismo Lanzarote through its sports tourism product "Lanzarote Sports Destination", Cabildo de Lanzarote through the Insular Sports Service, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centres of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Yaiza Town Hall; and the collaboration of, among others, the Canary Islands Sailing Federation, the Latin Sailing Federations and DinghyCoach.
