This is a text that could have very concrete repercussions on the daily lives of the people of Lyon and the greater Lyon area in the coming months. On Wednesday, May 28, members of parliament voted in the National Assembly to abolish low-emission zones (LEZs). The article concerning this abolition was introduced in committee at the initiative of LR and Rassemblement National deputies.

The bill was finally adopted by 98 votes to 51, with votes from the right, LFI, and some Macronist MPs. As for the Rhône MPs, most of them were conspicuous by their absence from this vote. This was starting with the two Green MPs from the Rhône, Boris Tavernier for the 2nd constituency and Marie-Charlotte Garin for the 3rd constituency, both of whom were absent this Wednesday.
Anais Belouassa-Cherifi, MP for the 1st constituency and member of France Insoumise, and Sandrine Runel ( 4th constituency, Socialist Party) were also absent from the left. Jonathan Géry (RN), Alexandre Portier (LR), Thomas Gassilloud (center right), and Cyrille Isaac-Sibille (Modem) also did not participate in the vote. In total, eight of the 14 Rhône MPs were absent from the Assembly for the vote on the text.
While Blandine Brocard ( 5th constituency, Modem) abstained, Gabriel Amard ( 7th constituency), Abdelkader Lahmar ( 7th constituency), and Idir Boumertit ( 14th constituency), all three rebellious deputies, voted for the abolition of ZFEs. As did Tiffany Joncour, the National Rally deputy for the 13th constituency. Finally, only Jean-Luc Fugit, the Macronist deputy for the 11th constituency of the Rhône, voted against the abolition of low-emission zones.
It should be noted that while the deputies voted in favor of the outright abolition of the ZFE, including in Lyon, the vote will still have to be confirmed by the adoption of the so-called "simplification" bill in its entirety.
