Bernard Brochand, former mayor of Cannes and historic leader of PSG, dies at 86

The former mayor of Cannes died at the age of 86 this Tuesday after spending several days in a coma. The Nice native had been one of the first leaders in the history of PSG.

The former mayor of Cannes joined the board of directors of the capital club in 1971 and contributed to the early years of the history of the Red and Whites with Alain Cayzac, Charles Talar, Daniel Hechter.
He then became president of the club association and served under the presidency of Michel Denisot in the 1990s, a period during which he also participated in the launch of Canal +. In particular, in his life as a manager, he took part in the success of the Parisians in the Cup Winners' Cup against Rapid Vienna in 1996.
The Nice native then entered politics by becoming mayor of Cannes, a position he held for 13 years between 2001 and 2014. He was also a French MP from 2001 to 2022, first within the RPR party, then the UMP and LR.

A big football fan, the Côte d'Azur native played in his youth for several professional clubs such as AS Cannes and Stade Français.
