World Games, figure skating: Mallorca wins 100-meter silver in Chengdu

Skating, finally. The Italian speed skating team finally made a breakthrough at the World Games in Chengdu. The Italian team broke through thanks to Vincenzo Maiorca, who won the silver medal in the 100-meter sprint in inline speed skating on the road, thus making up for yesterday's disappointment, when he missed out on the podium in the 200-meter event.

Maiorca, a Sicilian from Syracuse, finished first in both the final heat and the final semifinal, then in the final race he clocked 9.715, earning him the silver medal. The triumph was won by Spain's Jhoan Sebastian Guzman Bitar (9.530), completing the podium, with Germany's Ron Pucklitzsch (9.905) in third.
