World Swimming Championships: Benedetta Pilato wins bronze in the 50m breaststroke, with the 4x100m medley relay finishing fourth.

Benedetta Pilato (CC Aniene) won bronze in the 50m breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore. The 20-year-old from Puglia finished in 30.14, finishing seven hundredths ahead of fellow Italian Anita Bottazzo (Fiamme Gialle-Imolanuoto) in fourth place. Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte (29.55) took gold, ahead of China's Tang (30.03) who took silver.

"I'm very happy. The weather is what it is, but it was important to put my best foot forward. It's never easy to confirm your performance, and this bronze medal is worth a lot. I've always talked about the difficulties, but I'm still here trying." These are Benedetta Pilato's words, speaking to Rai Sport.

"The time isn't incredible, but I'm very happy with how I experienced this final. I trained hard and I'm satisfied with my season," added Anita Bottazzo, who finished fourth, to Rai Sport.

THE MEN'S 4X100 METRIC RELAY FINISHES FOURTH

Italy finished fourth in the men's 4x100 medley at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore. Thomas Ceccon (backstroke), Nicolò Martinenghi (breaststroke), Federico Burdisso (butterfly), and Carlos D'Ambrosio (freestyle) finished in 3:28.72, missing the United States' bronze medal by just 0.010s. The Neutral Athletes took gold with a championship and European record of 3:26.93, while France won silver with a time of 3:27.96.

"I'm in great shape. I did a stronger first lap and improved my individual time in the 100-meter backstroke. It's disappointing we didn't manage to get the medal; we fought for it until the end. I had a great World Championships." These were the words of Thomas Ceccon (Fiamme Oro) to Rai Sport after finishing fourth in the men's 4x100-meter medley relay at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore.

"There's a lot of disappointment. We're happy to have brought her back to good times. I'm quite satisfied with my performance; I gave it everything I had," added Nicolò Martinenghi (CC Aniene).

"I feel a little responsible for this fourth-place finish. I was slower than this morning. We'll go home and work. We have potential, and this is a year of departure towards Los Angeles," admits Federico Burdisso (Aurelia Nuoto).

"I managed to swim a stronger first lap. I tried my hardest not to get overtaken, but I just couldn't. Overall, it was a good relay," concludes Carlos D'Ambrosio (Fiamme Gialle – Swimming/Fondazione Bentegodi).
