Journalist Miguel Ángel Beltrán Martínez murdered in Durango

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The Durango State Attorney General's Office (FGE) confirmed the death of journalist Miguel Ángel Beltrán Martínez, 60, found on Saturday morning.
Although authorities have not officially released details of the discovery, local media outlets such as El Sol de Durango reported that the body was found wrapped in a blanket at kilometer 30 of the freeway to Mazatlán, within the town of Río Chico, Durango municipality.
According to information from Meganoticias Durango, the victim was found in a deserted area, along with a message whose content has not been revealed. Therefore, it is considered possible that the crime is related to his journalistic work and the posts he made on social media.
According to the media, after the body was recovered, it was confirmed that the man showed signs of violence.
The journalist's relatives went to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), where one of his sons performed an official examination of the body. The man stated that the last time he had contact with his father was Thursday morning, when they both left home on their way to work.
Miguel Ángel Beltrán Martínez was originally from Durango and had a long career in local media. He worked as a sportswriter and, in recent years, dedicated himself to digital journalism, where he disseminated videos and information on social media under the names "Capo" on TikTok and "@lagazzetadgo" on Facebook, covering a variety of topics, including those related to organized crime.
To date, the State Attorney General's Office has not provided further details about the journalist's death, although sources consulted by Proceso confirmed that investigations are underway to clarify the events and determine whether they are linked to his work as a journalist.
