Junior Pan American Games, Day 4: Swimmer Ulises Saravia takes gold in a fruitful day for Argentina.

Ulises Saravia secured the Argentine delegation's third gold medal at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, confirming his favoritism and winning the 100-meter backstroke in 53.89 seconds, a competition record. His progress has been tremendous, and the University of Tennessee signed him to its team, where he will be on a scholarship to the United States.
The young man who won bronze in the 50m backstroke at the 2023 Junior World Championships and silver in the 100m backstroke at the Pan American Games that year in Santiago, Chile, had just broken his own Argentine record in the 100m backstroke in Spain with a time of 53.26 seconds.

Saravia was followed by Maximilian Wilson of the Virgin Islands, who took the silver medal, while Jack Harvey of Bermuda took the bronze. This gave the 19-year-old from Mar del Plata a direct qualification to the Lima 2027 Senior Pan American Games.
Argentina won six silver medals on Tuesday, with Cecilia Dieleke in the 100m backstroke and the 4x100m mixed medley relay; fencer Catalina Borrelli in the sabre; the cycling team pursuit and cycling team sprint events; and Segundo Portabales in squash. Three bronze medals were won by Tomás Roberti Gontier and Tobías Weise in the trampoline event; and Alma Pueyo and Esteban Silva in the individual recurve archery event.
