Go Ahead presents Dordrecht coach Boel as Simonis' successor

Go Ahead Eagles has immediately secured FC Dordrecht coach Melvin Boel as the successor to Paul Simonis, who left for VfL Wolfsburg. The 38-year-old Boel has signed a three-season contract with the cup winner and Europa League participant.
Boel, who already did an internship at Go Ahead in the 2022/2023 season, worked for the first time as head coach at FC Dordrecht last season. With the club he finished fifth in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. In the semi-final of the play-offs, Willem II was too strong after penalties.
"We have spoken to two good candidates, with Melvin having the advantage that he knows our style of play and working methods well due to his one-year internship under René Hake. Last season Melvin was also a candidate when René left, but he had just signed with Dordrecht. Now it has finally worked out," technical manager Paul Bosvelt explains on the club website.
"When Go Ahead Eagles came on the line earlier this week about a possible head coach, I didn't have to think about it for long. The conversations with the management give me a lot of confidence. In these conversations it also became clear that the club is not yet at the end point. There are still plenty of development points," Boel responds.
Go Ahead presented Boel an hour after Simonis' departure.
