On Tuesday (17 June) a contract for the operation of a new seasonal water connection from Szczecin to Świnoujście via Nowe Warpno was officially signed on board the passenger ship “Queen of Szczecin”.
The agreement was signed by the starosta of Police, Shivan Fate, and the operator of the unit, captain Janusz Just – owner of the Secco company. The project received support from the local governments of Szczecin, Świnoujście, Nowe Warpno and the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The connection is a pilot and will be carried out every weekend from June 28 to August 24. There are plans for as many as 18 cruises a week – on the route from Szczecin, through Nowe Warpno, to Świnoujście and back. The ship will moor in Świnoujście at quay no. 4, right next to Bielik. The deck will accommodate 195 passengers and 50 bicycles.
Captain Janusz Just emphasized that the ship had undergone a thorough modernization, both technically and environmentally. "We replaced almost everything - the engine room, electronics, installations. The hull remained because it was as solid as the foundations of a house. The rest is modern, we meet EU exhaust emission standards, we are ready to sail," says the shipowner.
The contract is worth PLN 540,000, after the operator adjusted its initial offer to the county budget. The tender was won by the only company – Secco Janusz Just – but, as the parties assure, the conditions are competitive and in line with the project assumptions.
