Szczecin is a place with a negative natural increase, low unemployment, where last year over PLN 409 million was spent on the largest investments - this information was included in the report on the state of the city presented during Tuesday's session of the city council by President Piotr Krzystek. The mayor of Szczecin, supported by the clubs of the Civic Coalition and OK Polska, received a discharge. Law and Justice councilors voted against.

And then came the report on the state of Szczecin for 2024. According to the data presented by the president, at the end of the year, 386,706 people lived in Szczecin (these data do not include, among others, some foreigners). At the end of 2023, it was 389,966 people. There are more deaths than births. The registered unemployment rate at the end of last year was 3.4%. Realised revenue for 2024 - PLN 3,880,824,426, PLN realised expenditure - PLN 3,940,774,248

- Our main financial effort is aimed at creating an attractive metropolitan city - said the president. 51 percent of the budget was spent on this purpose. - The 10 largest investment projects amount to over PLN 409 million. The largest investment projects last year were the reconstruction of tracks, we spent almost PLN 110 million on this. We spend a lot on education. School renovations cost over PLN 55 million. We completed the construction of the Water Factory. We spent almost PLN 40 million from the Szczecin budget on this. The Szczecin Metropolitan Railway cost us over PLN 33 million.

Krzysztof Romianowski, head of the Law and Justice club, said that Szczecin received a lot of money from the central government during his party's rule. Many of the investments the president spoke about could only be carried out thanks to funds provided by the United Right, the councilor argued.

- The previous year was a year of many increases. There has never been such a festival of increases. And this was the first year of the Civic Coalition's absolute majority in the city council. It is the Civic Coalition councilors who are responsible for unpopular decisions - criticized Krzysztof Romianowski. - The president is a bit of a hostage of the coalition.

The president responded to right-wing politicians as follows:

- The Kaczyński Five and the Polish Deal led to the collapse of local government finances - Piotr Krzystek replied. - Our future was cut off. In absolute terms, we lost PLN 800 million, and we were given drips three times - PLN 290 million.

- 2024 was a good year for Szczecin - assessed the chairman of the KO club Łukasz Tyszler. - PLN 409 million for investments is a good result in a difficult time for investments. - And he turned to President Krzystek: - It was a very good job.

Ultimately, what had to happen with this balance of power in the city council happened: Piotr Krzystek received a discharge for the implementation of the budget for 2024. ©℗
