"In the early spring of last year I came here from the city to open a village school, then I wandered around the still empty and gloomy garden"... It was in 1896 in Rzędziny, located in the Dobra commune, which was then called Nassenheide. "That was the beginning of my real life"... It quickly transformed the author of these words, a young Englishwoman, into a famous writer and esteemed gardener, known to the reading world today under the name Elizabeth von Arnim.
The building of that one-room school still stands in Rzędziny today, and nearby is the Primary School of our times, which will soon be named after Elizabeth von Arnim, as we were informed by the principal Robert Mazur.
- This patron is connected to this place, she lived here, it was her place on earth. - says the director.
This will be the only school in the world under the patronage of Elizabeth von Arnim. It should be added that the idea of giving this name came from a teacher at this school, Mrs. Edyta Urban.
This morning, a family festival was held at the Rzedziny school, during which a community garden was opened. You could even say that, in a sense, also in honor of the English writer who was an excellent gardener. This festival concluded a series of events and meetings organized by the Carpe diem Association called "Planeta Rzędziny", carried out as part of the Społecznik na 5! program. A lot happened, students and their parents had a great time.
“The future blooms here” was written on the T-shirts of the participants of this festival. This good future was wished to the school principal and staff by Magdalena Zagrodzka, mayor of the Dobra commune, who supported the idea of patronage of the school.
We also wish you a very good future. We cannot fail to mention that from the beginning - one could say - "Kurier Szczeciński" was with the writer. The first Polish translation of her debut book "Elizabeth and her garden" was made by journalists from our newspaper Elżbieta Bruska and Berenika Lemańczyk. This book was the beginning of the great rose festivals in the Dobra commune, then led by mayor Teresa Dera, thanks to whom two monuments to the writer by Bohdan Ronin - Walknowski were also erected.
The Courier was the media patron of these festivals, organised, on behalf of the commune, by Iza Dryjańska, currently the head of the Carpe Diem Association, who prepared today's event together with the staff of the Rzeszów school.
