He was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt. It turned out he was drunk.

On Thursday, August 21st, just after 4 p.m., police spotted an unassuming Skoda on a road in the Trzebnica commune. It didn't stand out in any way – just another car on a local road. However, what caught their attention was the driver's absence of a seatbelt.
After stopping the car, before they even asked a question, before the driver could even say anything, the officers already knew that wearing a seat belt wasn't the driver's only offense. They smelled alcohol. So they turned on the breathalyzer. The device showed the driver had more than 1 per mille of alcohol in his system.
Now, a 50-year-old resident of our district must face severe consequences. He faces up to three years in prison for driving under the influence. Additionally, the court will impose a mandatory driving ban for a minimum of three years. But that's not all. The driver will also have to pay a monetary compensation to the Victim Support Fund and the Post-Penitentiary Assistance Fund. The minimum amount is 5,000 PLN, although the court can award up to 60,000 PLN. Photo: Provincial Police Headquarters in Trzebnica.
