Natural disaster in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Brucellosis outbreaks detectedIt is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Brucella. The most common reservoirs of this bacterium are cattle, dogs, sheep, goats and pigs. Infections among humans occur through direct or indirect contact with animals, their feces or contaminated animal products, also through inhalation of aerosol contaminated with bacteria. Transmission from person to person is very rare.
As the Bosnian portal noted, during the session of local authorities "no concrete solutions were reached, and none of the bodies took responsibility for urgently resolving the problem of removing animal excrement."
In a statement to the media after the session, the mayor of Vogošće, Migdad Hasanović, stressed that the situation was extremely alarming and that it would only get worse. In response to an appeal from the Civil Defense Headquarters, Mayor Hasanović declared a state of natural disaster for part of the region.
An epidemic of rat fever was declared earlierThis is yet another such problem in Bosnia and Herzegovina recently. In May, an epidemic of leptospirosis was declared in the Sarajevo canton — an administrative part of BiH that also includes the municipality of Vogošća. The disease, also known as "rat fever," is an infectious bacterial disease caused by spirochetes of the genus Leptospira. It spreads mainly through contact with water or soil contaminated with urine and feces of rodents.
The Regional Institute of Public Health announced at the time that mandatory pest control had not been carried out in the canton for two years due to problems with public procurement and that this situation had led to the development of the disease.
