Residents raise alarm: Barycz is drying up

- For many weeks, water has been regularly released from the dam in Żmigród, despite the lack of heavy rainfall or flood threat. The effects are dramatic: the water level in the river is so low that it is impossible to talk about any living conditions for fish or other aquatic organisms - wrote to us a resident of Żmigród.

- It stinks, the vegetation is rotting, and the landscape looks more like a dead zone than a living ecosystem - reported a resident.

In an email, he wrote that the Barycz has been heavily overgrown for years, and there are no concrete actions to unclog it or reclaim it. Draining the water is a problem for anglers. They pay membership fees to the Polish Angling Association, but are not allowed to use local fishing grounds. According to the resident, the river, which was once a place of relaxation and sports, now resembles a drying swamp.
