"This is the first comprehensive presentation in Poland and Europe of the work of an artist whose name has long been among the most important figures in 20th-century global design. Its goal is to introduce the public to Zalszupin's unique design philosophy, his modernist sensibility, and his contribution to the development of Brazilian design and architecture. It is also an attempt to inscribe his achievements into the Polish canon of visual culture," says Maria Murawsky, curator and designer of the exhibition.
The Warsaw exhibition at the Gawroński villa was prepared in cooperation with Lissa Carmona and her company ETEL, which looks after the legacy of Jerzy Zalszupin.
"We met Jorge in 1998. He was 76 years old at the time and already retiring from his professional life. Calm and reserved, but with a twinkle in his eye, he was ready for the next, important step. From that meeting, a collaboration was born that not only brought iconic furniture back to life but also reawakened his creativity. Jorge began designing again, creating new objects. In 2008, almost forty years after drawing his last piece, he designed the Veronica armchair, named after his older daughter. Our intense collaboration with Jorge lasted over twenty years and continues today, with the help of his daughters. During that time, Zalszupin's legacy has gained international renown: his works are present in major collections, auctions, and art fairs around the world," says Lissa Carmona.
