Urgent government budget meeting. Politician confirms

A meeting between ministers and the leaders of the ruling coalition will be held on Monday to discuss next year's budget, Left MP Tomasz Trela told Polsat News. The politician also addressed work on introducing a digital tax and increasing excise tax on alcohol.
Marcin Fijołek's guest on Monday's edition of "Graffiti" was Tomasz Trela , who announced that the ruling coalition leaders will meet on Monday to discuss next year's budget. "A working Council of Ministers is scheduled to meet today. It will be informal, because budgets and discussions are always shaped this way," the politician said.
The deputy chairman of the New Left also spoke about the excise tax on alcohol , which he believes should be increased. "As a representative of the Left, I can say with full responsibility that the excise tax on alcohol should be higher because alcohol is too easily accessible, and one way to combat alcoholism is to limit access to alcohol, " said Trela.
SEE: The idea of banning alcohol sales is back. The Ministry of Health is considering changes.
However, President Karol Nawrocki opposes such a move. "There will be no consent (...) to the proposed increase in excise tax on alcohol," Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the presidential office, told the media. Trela, however, indicated that he "doesn't particularly believe" that Nawrocki will not agree to the increase in excise tax on alcohol.
"I don't believe it. I think Minister Bogucki has stepped out of line," Trela stated. "If we have a tax on excess profits for banks, which are expected to earn as much as PLN 50 billion net in 2025, will we have a digital tax? Will Karol Nawrocki also block everything?" he continued.
Speaking about the alcohol excise tax increases, Trela stated that this is an area where tax increases will not negatively impact Poles. "Wherever savings are possible, they will be made, but there will certainly be no savings on healthcare or defense . Certainly not on what the Left is responsible for, meaning the entire social and welfare sector. There will be no cuts here," the politician announced.
"I don't buy that argument." Tomasz Trela on the digital taxTrela also announced that increasing state revenues is necessary, among other things, due to increased defense spending. "Next year's budget for this purpose is expected to be historically high due to the situation beyond our eastern border," he reminded.
The politician also assured that the Ministry of Digital Affairs is working on a digital tax . Opponents of this levy argue that it will negatively impact Polish entrepreneurs. Mariusz Błaszczak of the Law and Justice party (PiS) even recently stated that we will be able to introduce such a tax "if we have nuclear weapons."

"I don't buy this argument, because it's PiS's timidity . Donald Trump can say the most stupid thing, and PiS will always applaud. This isn't the sovereignty of the fifth-largest country in the European Union," Trela said. " We have the right to shape our own social policy and impose taxes on those who don't pay them . I don't agree to the banking sector robbing Poles, earning 50 billion a year and not being able to share it with the state in any way," he continued.
"The better man won." Trela about early elections in ZabrzeTrela also commented on the snap election for mayor of Zabrze . Kamil Żbikowski won the election, beating Ewa Weber by just over 100 votes. The politician's candidacy was nominated by Kamil Żbikowski's Lepsze Zabrze Voters Electoral Committee.
" They clashed, and the better candidate won, " Trela commented. "I was one of the co-initiators of the large referendum held in Łódź. The Left recalled Mayor Kropiwnicki. If there's a group that wants to get rid of their mayor because they have a different vision for the city, it's worth trying ," he concluded.

He is a lawyer by training and also holds a degree in economics. He previously engaged in local initiatives, coordinating projects such as City Creators Zabrze and Saving Zabrze Monuments .
