This investment has been awaited since 1945. The huge bridge will solve the problems

- The ferry crossing along the DW421 is the only solution of this type on the Silesian section of the Oder. This solution is very inconvenient for drivers and local residents.
- The final solution to this problem has been planned for a long time. The Silesian Voivodeship government decided that a large bridge over the Odra would be built in this place.
- Construction of the over 630 m long crossing has already begun. The investment is moving forward.
The ferry crossing over the Odra between Grzegorzowice in the Rudnik commune and Ciechowice in the Nędza commune is the only such solution on the Silesian section of the river. There used to be a bridge in this place, but it was destroyed in 1945 by retreating German troops.
The ferry is the only solution of this type on the Odra River in the Silesian Voivodeship.On the second longest river in Poland, a ferry had to be launched. The crossing is located on provincial road no. 421. For several decades, this has been a huge problem for both residents of nearby municipalities and drivers from other parts of the country.
As Ryszard Pacer, spokesman for the Provincial Roads Authority in Katowice, explains , the ferry crossing is often immobilized . Sometimes, in the summer, the ferry does not sail because there is too little water in the Oder. In the winter, it is hindered by ice. In turn, during the last flood, there was too much water in the Oder and cars could not enter it from the existing concrete ramps on the banks.
A gigantic 633 m long bridge is being built on the Odra RiverThe solution to this problem has been planned for a long time. Ultimately, the Silesian Voivodeship decided to build a large bridge over the Oder in this place. The new structure is of great importance not only for local municipalities.
It will facilitate access to nearby tourist attractions, including those in the Rudnik commune, and, above all, will enable transit transport without the need to enter Racibórz.
It is only a dozen or so kilometers from this city and the Racibórz Dolny reservoir.
The new bridge over the Oder will be 633.6 m long. Its structure will consist of 13 spans with a span of 40 to 50 m. New roads leading to it will also be built. In total, including the bridge, they will be 2.7 km long.

Importantly, the bridge over the Odra was designed so that its abutments were located outside the flood embankments.
That's why it's so long. So if after its construction there were to be heavy rains again, it wouldn't be at risk. That's one of the reasons why its construction costs are so high.

The largest investment in the construction of a bridge in the 25-year history of the Silesian Voivodeship local governmentThe contract for the construction of a new bridge over the Oder was signed in January 2024. The first works began at the turn of June and July last year. Now the investment is more and more advanced. According to the information on the official website of the project, the time advancement has reached the halfway point. The investment has been planned for three years. Its cost is PLN 293.7 million.
After the bridge over the Odra is built, the only ferry crossing in the provincial road network in the Silesian province will most likely be closed down. Then, the problems of drivers and local residents will finally end.
