The whole world is writing about Kamil Stoch. One big surprise
A week ago, Thomas Thurnbichler announced the squad for the World Championships in Trondheim. The Austrian is taking five players to Norway – Paweł Wąsek, Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Żyła, Aleksander Zniszczoł and Jakub Wolny. During the weekend in Sapporo, Kamil Stoch and Maciej Kot were also fighting for a possible trip, but the coach did not decide on any of them.
This decision caused a great stir among the fans. Not only the fans, but also journalists and experts pointed out that the coach could have taken six players and made the decision on the final line-up after the training sessions on site.
Ultimately, this did not happen, and the decision to omit Stoch was widely reported not only in Polish but also in the world media.

"Ski jumping star eliminated from the world championships" - write journalists from t-online.de. "He is one of the most decorated ski jumpers of the last 15 years" - we read further. On sport.de they write about "the icon of Poland".
"Polish ski jumpers are going to the World Championships without the Olympic champion," writes Austrian laola1.at. "This season, the three-time Olympic champion did not live up to expectations. Now he will not go to the World Championships."
The absence of the great champion was also noted by the Slovenians, of course. "A shock for one of the best of all time" - reads the title of an article published on zurnal24.si. They also remind us that Stoch will not go to the championship for the first time in 20 years.
While the interest of German, Austrian or Slovenian media is not really surprising, the article on... a Croatian portal is certainly something of a surprise.
On the pages of sportske.jutarnji.hr we read about the "end of an era". "The icon was not included in the national team. For the first time since 2003, the World Championship will not include one of the best players in history".
"There is no doubt that Stoch has not been in his best form for a long time, but at a time when Polish ski jumping is going through a serious crisis, many in the country believe that the decorated veteran could help the team with his experience," the author of the article writes.
