Tragedy after Ekstraklasa season opener. Zagłębie Lubin releases statement
After just a dozen or so minutes, Zagłębie led Lechia 2-0. Early in the second half, the visitors from across the sea managed to equalize. The final period, however, belonged to the hosts, who responded with four goals, securing a valuable three points in the table. This allowed them to climb to 10th place. However, their joy was quickly dashed.
"A Zagłębie Lubin fan has died. A 50-year-old Zagłębie Lubin fan died after the 5th round match of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa between KGHM Zagłębie Lubin and Lechia Gdańsk. He was resuscitated by medical services after fainting in sector G of our stadium. The Management Board of Zagłębie Lubin SA extends its sincerest condolences and expressions of sympathy to the family of the deceased," reads a statement issued by the club from Lower Silesia.
We don't yet know any other details about this incident. The match ended around 7:50 p.m. The Lubin club's announcement was made at 10:14 p.m., a few dozen minutes after the final whistle.
